How do I spend my time...
Well, like I already mentioned, we have horses. Any
free time can be easily absorbed there without even trying!
I have also been the involved in the Boy Scout Troop for my
church since 2000. And I have been the
Scoutmaster since 2003. My troop is
Troop 109.
Shortly after I started attending the First Methodist Church, I
was approached by some of the elders of the and asked if I could
get involved in the Troop. Seems they had heard of my past
scouting career and the fact that I was an Eagle Scout. I
say "yes". Like anything else, I've had ups and downs with it.
But we have some good boys and some outstanding adults that help
out. So, its all good!
I just started getting involved in the
Single Action Shooting Society (SASS).
Basically, its a bunch of folks (men and women) that get dressed
up like old cowboys and strap on some six shooters and compete
in shooting sports. It's all very authentic. All of
your guns should be replicas of the ones used in the 'ol west.
Meaning all pistols are single action (the kind where you have
to pull back the hammer before each shot -- you can't just keep
pulling the trigger like the high flut'n modern things). I
just signed up, so I haven't spent much time doing it.
There is a group that meets right out side of time on the first
weekend of every month. I'm planning on meeting up with
them. They are the
Plum Creek
Carriage and Shooting Society. A nice bunch of folks
I'm looking forward to getting to know...
We also have a 29 foot travel trailer that we take camping.
Kids enjoy the heck out of it. Mom and Dad like it too!
Its nice to get out in the woods and still be able to take a
shower, watch satellite TV, use the microwave, enjoy the AC and
sleep in a real bed at night! That's my kind of roughing
it!! Besides, I get enough tent camping with the Boy Scout
Troop!
We also try to hit a few of the Renaissance Festivals around
us. The BIG one is
The Texas
Renaissance Festival. This is a yearly event for
us. We will take the travel trailer and camp out there for
the weekend. We do the King's Feast and Wine tasting every
year. We try to do 2 weekends - one is the "kid's weekend"
where we take our kids, and other is the "Mom and Dad" weekend.
No kids allowed, and all you have to do is crawl back to the
trailer at night - its a good 'ol time!! We also try to do
two others,
Scarborough Faire and
Excalibur Faire. And, YES, if its cool enough we do
get dressed up in the garb of the times!!
We also have a time share outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Its called
Rancho Banderas. We have been there 4 or 5 times.
We go about every year of so. The place is awesome.
It is actually on a migration path for dauphins and humpback
whales. About the end of November to mid January is when
you can see them. So far, we have seen a pod of dauphins
as we were walking the beach. But the best, was when we
were snorkeling and our boat "captain" heard that there was a pod of
humpbacks swimming by. Dora and I were the only ones in
our boat, so when the driver asked if we wanted to go after
them, we said "YES". It took about 5 to 10 minutes of us
to find them. We were able to up to get to about 30 feet from
them. It was a small pod. It had 3 adults and one
adolescent. The adults would keep themselves between the
boat and the baby. They would breach right by us.
It was amazing!
We also try to take cruises every so often. We have
done several to the Caribbean. Dora and I are both
SCUBA certified, and the Caribbean is a nice spot for diving!
We been on a Panama Canal cruise, and Alaska Cruise. We
have also done a Disney Cruise with Makayla. We will, most
likely, do another one of these in the next year to two with
Makayla and Faith. |
